Encyclopedia of Social and Cultural Anthropology
I study anthropological courses at the university and bought the encyclopaedia to help myself and guide by the new limits which I came up against. With these aims I found this book extremely useless. It is certainly not a book for students, those which start to study anthropology, but rather for those which know already much science. For example, here the definition of the essentialism: "Essentialism generally appears as a violation of relativism anthropological and one of the conceptual sins of attack of anthropology. Exemplifié by ideologies of totalization such as nationalims and the biological determinism, it is also frequently combined with the reification, the objectivism and the literalism ". Etc... For me in order to include/understand this definition, I must read 3-4 approximately articles of page in the same encyclopaedia: relativism, biological determinism, objectivism, literalism. And even after that I do not think that I will be able to include/understand what the authors wanted to say by this definition. And them its same almost about each other limits or concept which I sought. Naturally, if you are with the current of all these limits - it is easy, but then makes you really the need this encyclopaedia. An experiment of frustration for me. This publication now gathers dust on a rack, and I turned to more popular publications, as "what is anthropology" (limits are explained in a language much more accessible), "social anthropology and cultural of Arrangement", etc... And... never underestimate the wikipedia, best for me as a student. Not strongly recommmend this book for students and that which starts to learn anthropology. Will advise that with my professor of university of anthropology with 20 years teaching the experiment, it can find it to interest. Maximum

This book is of priceless value. That which is your interest for anthropology, this will be used as complete guide and to jump in addition to point for all the sectors of the discipline. It is easy to follow, well-writing and full with the references for more reading. Although it is not adapted with the study appronfondie (because the title suggests, it is an encyclopaedia), it is a fantastic help to clarify and recapitulate a broad range the matters. For the students and the beginner, this book is a gem, just do not hope on top to obtain to you by your examinations.
