Reviews:
ALMOST completely adoring 'The Adoring Audience' ' the admiring public ' is an accumulation of attempts past university
graduate, journalist and other authors over fans, ' fan cathedral '
and fan behavior. All articles buried light on or other way on the
phenomenon of fan cathedral of a number of different persepctives:
John Fiske writes over ' the cultural economy of fan cathedral ';
Cheryl Cline of views of female role of the rock ' n ' loosens up;
Lisa Lewis examines fan stories for film; and Joli Jensen alarms us to
the dangers of the dismissing passionate fans, as ' pathological.'
Both Elvis fans and ' Beatlemania ' come under the microscope also.
The articles are represented without apology or explanation or with
each possible idea that there should be a connection of the position
over the entire volume (it is it is natural that ' fan cathedral '! is
interesting). Consequently a chapter, which obviously ' that follows
fans on pathologises ' from an article, which indicates that it is
useless to do exactly. There are many contradictions in the ideas in
this book. I liked that. It left you really the arguments examines
states radical. I think, I it only one book with four stars
estimate, because I really do not believe that it is the ' last word '
on this topic. It was a large place to begin to to think of fans and
fan cathedral but at the end of it I did not believe, as if the
experience of the Seins was a fan and the taboos with fan cathedral in
the society emptied from the loading and meaning and secret connected.
I think that my favourite chapter Fred and Judy Vermorels was possibly
' a view of the fan factory ' - an accumulation of excerpts from fan
letters to famousnesses such as Kate Bush and David Bowie, Excerpts of
the radio and of the television appearance also - in, which fans write
unguardedly and speak their understanding about their fan articles.
Although some the author are obviously deeply disturbed and '
unusually ' - and any strangely not self-confident and naively - some
these letters to have a curious beauty and an energy, which are to be
described with difficulty. . the small pieces of hearts and life of
the people, sent too dear never meet them. Amazing measured value.
