West Federal Taxation 2008: Individual Income Taxes, Professional Version (West Federal Taxation Individual Income Taxes)
Reviews:

starsWrong textbook for school.
The book in and of itself is great. It is not the correct book for school. It does not come with turbo tax and RIA checkpoint cd's. You will need each of these student versions too complete your assignments. Thompson publishing offers the full version for about the same amount of money.

starsGood condition por the price but....
The delivery of the book was fast, the book was in perfect conditions, BUT it did not include the CD (turbo tax softare) so just pay attention when ordering a book to make sure it comes with all the necessary.

But overall it was a good purchase.

starsConfused
I have to purchase this book for class and am a bit reluctant after reading the reviews. It seems as though the last reviewer knows or works for Hoffman. I am paying over $150 for a book and I therefore want up-to-date, well organized and well written information.

starsGreat Book!
This is an excellent book to learn taxation from. I used West taxation books before going on to a career at a big 4 accounting firm!
As far as the previous reviewer, who is obsessed with out of date charts and tax forms....she/he doesn't really understand taxation. Tax codes change year in and out. When these books are published they go with the latest possible information.
Besides, if your goal is simply to learn the basics of preparing taxes, why is it so necessary to have all the current years tax code info? Especially when the tax code doesn't "usually" change a whole lot from year to year.
Anyways, I have checked out other tax textbooks, and this is the one I'd recommend (being someone with SOME experience in this field)

starsTalk your teacher out of this book!!!
If your course requires this book, like mine, outward journey with the administrator of the school if you must but the speech out of it. The book frequently puts in reference other posterior chapters. The book employs the obsolete sheets of tax of tax, when the current years are available for free on irs.gov! The book ' shortened tables by grouping together the years which are not really at the same rate, when the correct tables are available for free on irs.gov! It informs you only on this subject once in chapter 8, in spite to do so much all by the book. It spends the manner too much hour over laws of taxes of the former years, and decades. The play that the book provides for the use in chapters is bad! It does not take in the accout ยง167(k) that, apply you obviously only to 2003 and 2004, but such are the years given on the test. It assigns on a 365 days basis during the leap year 2004 when the book (5 times!) known as you to employ 366 days if it is one leap year. Some of the questions do not provide enough information to determine the correct answer. There are also questions about the articles not mentioned in the book of the whole. Not equalize the woman in the class which A MADE of the taxes liked this book. It is difficult to imagine that no matter who it would be good for, unless perhaps you had to appear out way of depreciating a building which you bought in 1986.

starsPoorly written text I ever had
I had to buy this text since it was required by the instructor. This text badly is written, organized, and very muddling. It covers the same matters in several chapters but they formed or are not organized. It is very painfull that you must go above several chapters to find a matter completely particularly when the book is not organized good.

This must be one of worst handbooks the than I met: - badly organized - badly written - the problems have little correlation to the contents of the chapters. - very few graphs, although some of the graphs included are completely good, just enough not almost. - this book is written for the wise ones which confuses memorizing with the study. - you are probably wedged with this text; invite your professors and departments to give up this book. Your time is worth the sorrow something!

starsPoorly Written
This book was required by my professor thus I had to buy it. It is probably one of the worst handbooks than I ever employed. I found the writing badly expressed and there were some contradictions with code (supposed receipt, etc.)
